Us?

She sat there silently packing all her memories; she was confused between nightmare and reality. Her heart was shattering into billions of pieces as she picked up the souvenirs and the gifts, all expensive and rich but nothing which gave her pure satisfaction and bliss. Each of them had a story behind; which hurt her more than she could authorize. The pain was building up more and more while looking at each of them, but she wasn’t ready to get rid of them all of a sudden. One day, she will give them up, that is what she thinks but that day sadly isn’t today. She drags her bag through the living room, ready to live with her splintering tool right there beneath her chest. Fairytales are meant to fail, nothing good remains permanent. She gives a last look at their picture which she thought was perfect, she picks it up and throws it on the ground shattering the glass frame breaks; she gets down on her knees over the fragmented dozen of dolour and grief. She starts collecting the bits and pieces negligently endearing the cuts which result in the fall of blood. The ache is tremendous inside to bother about the ache outside. The irony is that even after all the misery her eyes dart towards the smiling couple in the picture lying beneath, she leaves all the glass pieces allowing them to fall, unknowingly she picks up the picture and shouts,

“What happened to us?”

A voice came from behind,

“You should leave now”

She stood up and looked behind; there he stood dissembling being all strong and restrained.

She nodded in agreement and held her bag, his eye darted towards her wounded hands. All the emotions and the feelings rushed out from his inside, it broke the wall he had created since a very long time. He dashed towards holding her hands, caressing her wounds with so much of love and care. She pulled her hands back acting all mighty and brave but her sentiments failed to cooperate with her act, a small unruly tear flew mercilessly from those big beautiful eyes.

He stared into those eyes, though moisten, they were adept in showing her clearly from inside. He dropped his shoulders and moved towards her, he realized now that why did he love her, In the midst of life, they had forgotten to cherish their love, to grow it and to blossom it. Eventually, the distance fabricated which seemed something impossible to be perished, but now he knew, that she is all he will ever need and if he let her go today, they both will fall in much deeper well of sufferings.

“I love you so much” He says after 2years

She breaks down right there,

He smiles, he doesn’t require any replies. Her hysteria proves how much she loves him; it’s just like the day when he proposed her.

He bolted inside his room,

She seemed confused, too much dwelled into emotions to go and check on him inside, later, in a while he comes outside,

In his hand is her ring which he gave her for the first time while proposing, nothing grand or big, just a simple metallic ring with a stone in the middle engraving both of their initials.

He pulled her up, so that she could stand. He stared deep into her eyes, recalling the déjà vu, he involuntarily smiled. She stood there silently in front of him as he went on his knees. He removed the ring and said, “Let’s restart again, I know, we both have made mistakes. Life was easy when only you were my aim, then my ambition for money came in between, In materialism, I totally forgot how beautiful my life with you could be, please forgive me, I will love you forever and always.”

She hugs him tight with tears flowing uncontrollably from her eyes.

Ah! The materialism! Too alluring to be truly understood. Another engrossing tale. Simply love the attention to detail given in your tales. “The ache is tremendous inside to bother about the ache outside” – Take a bow !

In the race for power and money, we humans have the tendency to forget our emotions and needs, but the moment when realization hits like a truck, everything starts getting aligned up. 🙂

True. We can only hope that the truck doesn’t hit too late. The couple here was lucky that it had been just 2 years 🙂

Truly lovely and poignant! SO good, I meant it. I’m a boy and supposedly not meant to cry, but I took a moment and felt my eyelids: Are my eyes welling tears? Okay that happens:) Truly tragic!

That’s sweet and lucid. The right tinge of required emotions. Amid the chase snarled in by loads, a moment is enough to ruffle the love back! Beautifully presented. The emotions from either side. Superb Preeti!
